RAHUL POKHARKAR
MATCHMOVE SUPERVISOR
Rahul Pokharkar is a highly skilled VFX artist with an engineering background who has made a name for himself in the film industry.
Over the course of his career, he has worked in Canada for the past 12 years on several high-profile projects, including the Oscar-winning film Dune and the Oscar-nominated Top Gun. Rahul is a member of the SWA, Mumbai & the Quebec Film and Television Council, Canada. He has previously worked as a visiting faculty at the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune.
Despite his success in the VFX industry, Rahul always wanted to explore other creative avenues. So he began to write in his spare time and quickly discovered a talent for storytelling. As a result, he is pursuing the “Filmmaking” program at New York Film Academy (NYFA) and the “Screenplay for Film & Television” Program at Michigan State University, USA.

Tracking Artist
This role focuses specifically on camera tracking and matchmoving. Tracking artists are responsible for accurately recreating the camera movement and perspective of live-action shots in the virtual environment, ensuring that visual effects elements seamlessly align with the filmed footage.
Layout Artist
Layout artists use the tracked camera data provided by matchmove artists to place virtual assets, characters, and objects into the scene. They establish the initial composition and positioning, creating a foundation for other departments to build upon.
Previsualization Artist (Previs)
Previs artists use matchmove data to create rough visualizations of scenes before they are filmed. This helps directors and production teams plan camera movements, framing, and overall scene dynamics, contributing to efficient and effective shooting.
3D Animator
Rotoanim artists can transition to 3D animation roles, leveraging their understanding of camera movement to create realistic character and object animations that align seamlessly with the live-action shots.
Virtual Production Specialist
With the rise of virtual production techniques, matchmove artists can contribute to creating virtual environments and integrating live-action footage in real-time setups for film, TV, and gaming projects.
Supervisor or Lead Artist
